SAME GLOVE, BETTER FOR THE PLANET.
SHOWA’s revolutionary Eco Best Technology® (EBT) makes a difference to the environment, without any compromise in protection and performance.
Launched in 2012, our biodegradable nitrile gloves are the industry’s first, and today, SHOWA offers the most extensive selection of biodegradable hand protection in the market.
SAME QUALITY, PERFORMANCE AND PROTECTION, BETTER FOR THE PLANET.
Did you know that of the 150 billion pairs of gloves produced every year, an estimated 100 billion pairs of gloves are thrown away each year? As a result, piles of gloves end up in landfills each year.
Thanks to its special composition, our EBT gloves decompose within 1 to 5 years in active landfills, where regular nitrile gloves need more than 100 years.
EBT requires biologically active landfills for biodegration. This means gloves with EBT can’t begin to biodegrade prior to disposal. These abilities have been validated by independent certified laboratories using international test methods ASTM D5511 and D5526.
The EBT Process
HOW ECO BEST TECHNOLOGY WORKS
EBT accelerates the biodegradation of nitrile to organic compound in biologically active landfills:
- EBT materials are added to the nitrile during production
- Gloves are disposed
- Gloves are transferred and discarded into biologically active landfills
- Microorganisms break down the EBT gloves
- Organic soil and biogas is left in its place
The Showa EBT Family
Protecting What Matters.
Protection is our first priority. With SHOWA’s revolutionary Eco Best Technology® (EBT), we not only provide top of the line hand
protection, but also a means of
protecting our planet for
generations to come.
Plant Food.
EBT products are rich nutrient
sources that attract microbial
activity in landfills. Upon disposal,
microorganisms consume,
metabolize and break down EBT
materials into fertilizer, leaving
zero waste behind.
Proven Performance.
Help preserve the planet without
sacrificing performance. EBT
gloves perform exactly the same
as our non-EBT gloves, as proven
by third party testing in
side-by-side evaluations.
The Planet is in Your Hands. Consider the number of disposable nitrile gloves used every day. Each one takes over 100 years to fully break down. With EBT, they return to organic matter in only 1-5 years*, creating a world of difference in every glove.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does New Zealand Have Active Landfills?
Yes they do. In New Zealand there are currently 17 landfill sites that are setup to capture gas in biologically active environments. There are some that turn this gas into an energy output such as electricity, while the rest flare the gas off to release considerably lower volumes and less harmful gases into the atmosphere. This is done to reduce harmful methane gases that would naturally seep through the soil and into the atmosphere.
Definition of a Biologically Active Landfill.
Biologically active landfills accelerate waste decomposition through enhanced biological processes using techniques like leachate recirculation, aeration, and bioaugmentation. The goal is to reduce landfill gas, promote faster settlement, and allow for earlier site reclamation. Compliance with environmental regulations, monitoring, and management are crucial.
Does Australia Have Active Landfills?
Australia has an esitmated 210 landfill sites that are setup to capture gas in biologically active environments. There are some that turn this gas into an energy output such as electricity, while the rest flare the gas off to release considerably lower volumes and less harmful gases into the atmosphere. This is done to reduce harmful methane gases that would naturally seep through the soil and into the atmosphere.
